Do I need to uninstall the 2007 Activation Assistant?

Hi Folks-
I have installed the MS Office H&S on 2 computers so far (bought a 3
user box) both prior to activating their 60 day trials. The first one I
installed using the disks (no, I didn't know any better) and the second
by code using the assistant (by code is much quicker). I did not
uninstall the trials. Both computers are working OK and are without the
problems I have read in the other forum entries. I got lucky, I guess.
The "bought version" seems to have overlaid well and the trial versions
are nowhere to be found. The only things remaining are the Activation
Assistants. I have deleted the shortcuts to prevent accidental
activation as the desktop computer is shared with others. Should I
uninstall the AA? Will it cause problems later? Is it only a HD space
issue? Will the AA be needed again? Should I have uninstalled the AA
and the trials? I have 1 more user left for a future computer and would
like to do it correctly. (MS didn't know the answer to these questions.)
Thanks.

You should uninstall any trials, prior to installing your paid for version
EULA is for use on 3 PC's at any one time, and not for 3 installationss. ie
you can reinstall as often as is neccessary

Thanks for your reply, DL. Yes, you are correct, I do have the 3 PC
License (not "user"). As I understand it from this Forum, to correctly
install this on PC #3, (and assuming that it will come with the MSO
Trial), that I will need to first uninstall the MSO Trial's Activation
Assistant and then the MSO Trial. MS provided very minimal instructions
with this package. I guess I was just lucky with PCs 1 and 2, but the
question of needing to uninstall the AA from these 2 PC remains. The AA
is about 14MB. Any thoughts? Thanks again.

Thanks for your reply, DL. I had read this MS report awhile back, then I
had contacted MS Support with the AA question- they didn't know, I
guess. They suggested MS Office Support,, they didn't know either, I
guess. The MSO forum said that I was in the wrong forum. I stumbled
across the Techarena forums while having a McAfee problem (solved!).
I'm not too concerned with uninstalling the Trials from PCs 1&2, as
they seem to be gone/overwritten by the store-bought 2007 H&S, but I am
still wondering about the Trials' Activation Assistant(s) (You'd think
they would auto-uninstall when no longer needed). So, back to the
original question about the AA.
Thanks again.

Afraid I cannot offer anything further on AA
I'd be surprised if an installation of H&S had fully replaced the trial,
after all H&S doesnt include Outlook, at the very least.
Maybe login twice because you are posting via another Forum, instead of
direct?

Thanks for your reply, DL. The Office Trials are/were for H&S (n
Outlook) so that probably helped.
PC #1 shows no sign of the trial, only the AA remains. It must'v
uninstalled while installing via the bought disk, I probably misse
that action. I'll uninstall the AA and it should be OK.
PC#2 is more complicated. This one I installed via the code on th
bought box (a guy from Office Depot recommended this method). It wa
much quicker, but I found the unactivated trial version still around
not under "C:/Programs", but under "C:/Workssetup" the file name i
"OffHST07Trial". Unfortunately, the trial is not listed in th
"add/remove programs" list. A "re-install office trial" does show unde
Start/All Programs/Microsoft Office, perhaps to tease me into tha
action! I'll have to re-read the MS publication you suggested and the
try to gather the courage to do it!
Thanks again for your help.
PS- Yes, I did have to log in twice to reply (again)

Update:
PC#1- uninstalled the Activation Assistant via "add/remove programs"
Went OK with no problems.
PC#2- Have decided to wait (OK- I wimped out) for the trial period t
expire (Feb 14) and see if the bought H&S takes over completely
KB928218 seems a bit much for me to handle. No problems with the H&S

Update:
PC#2- The trial period has ended and H&S has converted to the
"non-commercial use" banner. H&S is working OK. AA uninstalled OK.
I got lucky...again! (YAY!)

Go to the official microsoft website and download the trial pack if you
don`t already have it.

The url is
http://microsoft.com

Once you have downloaded a pack, open it up and ignore the warning
about the license code. Once you can type or whatever, just exit it
again.

Next step:
Open the Start menu and click RUN. There you type in regedit

A big screen will come up.

From here we need to locate the files we need to delete.
They will be called :

"DigitalProductId" and "ProductID"

They will be in the following roots

Local Machine .. Software .. Microsoft.. 12.0 ..Registration.

If they are not here, simpy click Ctrl + F to open the search engine.
If you find DigitalProductId`s and ProductID`s, make sure you are in a
folder related to Office. This can be done by looking down at the bottom
of the window that you are in.

Once you have found them, delete them. PLEASE NOTE! There is only one
of each you must delete and they will be in the same folder.

Once you have deleted them exit the registry editor.

Now you must enter an internet window and type in this text:

c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\office12\office setup
controller\proof.en\

Cut out the file from the folder(do not copy), leaving the folder
open(you will need it again in a moment). Now place it onto your
desktop.

Right click on the Proof.xml file and select "open with..." and select
Notepad.

Down near the bottom of the page you will see a word saying

"AlwaysInstalled"

Delete only THAT word and replace it with "NeverInstalled"

Remember DO NOT delete anything else or it won`t work.
BE CAREFULL!!

Now Save.

Now move the Proof.xml file back to its folder...

and voila! It works!
