.doc files won't automatically load with word 2007

Hi all,

I have a small problem. I just upgraded to Office 2007 and now the old Word
files will not open unless I load Word first and open them directly. I have
tried to change the default program for the .doc extension but the Word
program does not appear and the browse function to find the program does not
work either. Is there a bug somewhere and if so, what is the fix?

Thanks,

Paul Grady

In Windows Explorer, click tools, folder options, file types, scroll down
until you see "doc" under extensions and select it, (if it is not in the
list then click new, type doc,) select change, this opens a dialog box, click
browse, navigate to program files, microsoft office, office12, select winword
and click open, click ok until all boxes are closed. Now try to open you word
document.

I have the same problem with the word version that came in office word and
student 2007... I don't see a tools option on my windows explorer, however--
any help would be greatly appreciated

Only one Word version can be the default for opening Word files (by
double-clicking icons in Windows Explorer). To avoid the Setup process that
re-registers file associations and other options when switching between the
applications, see the "Hacking the Registry" section of the article at
http://www.gmayor.com/Toolbars_in_word_2007.htm.
