editing drawings

Students are drawing pictures in Word 2007. After using various shapes, they
discover they can not edit the shapes/drawing. The drawings go gray and
clicking on them does not make them active so they can be edited. I don't
know exactly what the students are doing to cause that. It is only 2 or
three computers in a lab of about 25. I don't know if there is a default on
Word that is causing this or if it is the student clicking on something.

Not sure... Word 2007 introduced a new graphics engine, and I think the
graphics might become uneditable if the doc is saved in the old 97-2003
format, or even more likely if docs are edited in older versions.
So the save format would be one place to look.
