Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I will receive an indication of incoming mail. It will indicate receiving 4 new messages for example, yet they are no where to be found. I have disabled all rules. Very odd!!!!

You must have a rule that is moving the message. The most likely culprit is the Mailing List Manager (MLM). It's very easy to set up a MLM rule by accident, when you are marking a message as 'not junk'. The wording of that dialog is ambiguous to say the least. Check if there is an MLM entry (look for MLM entries under the tools menu) with the incorrect destination folder as the target folder. Mailing List Manager rules run before your other rules.

There are 3 different kind of rules in Entourage:

Mailing List Manager (MLM)
Junk Mail Filter
Rules (custom rules you create)

They run in the order listed above. The custom rules also run in the order they are listed. (top runs first)

If there are no Mailing List Manager rules, then you could have View > Flagged only selected. Use the custom Mail View in the lower portion of the folder window to view Mail Received Today.

thanks - there was one MLM which I disabled, Mail now seems to be back to normal. Any ideas on how to locate the messages that may have come in during the last few days when this was happening?

In the future is you need to find the most recent mail, use the custom Mail
View, "Received Today". You can add it to the favorite's bar.

Yes, you can create a custom mail view. Click on the header "Main Views" in
the Folder list. Select to make a new saved search using the "New" icon.

Select Date Received, in the next button you can select a range of dates.
"This Week" might get all the missing mail. You can use the" Move to" button
to move to the Inbox. If you want to find the emails, there is a script that
will show the path of the message. Most likely they are all in the same
location.

Finding path of messages.

Use one of the two script scripts listed here.
You can copy/paste or download the
script.

This screen shots shows the Main Entourage window. You might find some
hidden features you've overlooked here:
