Enter time in My Tasks with timephased display

N

Nicolas Petetin

Hi.

I have set up my company's PWA to allow our employees to enter their actual work day by day in My Tasks: SP1, Timephased Display, timesheet not required, etc. Everything is well displayed, I even configured the view to only display relevant task and assignment fields (Name [Task], Progress [Assignment], Remaining Work [Assignment]), but entering day-by-day work is still impossible, as if the Progress field was read-only although it works well with non-timephased display.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Just thinking out loud here....

When the timephased display is turned off, what do you see in the Progress
when you click in it? The chart with the Actual hours / day or a different
view?

Have you checked the specific project to make sure it was published with the
right tracking mechanism?

Thanks Andrew for the reply.
When the timephased display is turned off, I can enter the time in the single Progress field for the whole week. Moreover, it's the same when it's on: I can enter the time in the Progress field for the whole week only.
Here are my Server Settings for task display:
Tracking Method:
Actual and remaining work
Force project managers to use the progress reporting method specified above for all projects = Checked
Project User Updates:
Restrict updates to Project Web Access = Checked
Time entry by Timesheet only, users will sync to update tasks = Unchecked
Define Current Tasks: 30 days
Enable Team Member Gantt view:
Enable ActiveX Gantt view for all users = Checked
Thanks.

Thanks Dale for your reply.
Yes, I edited the Web part as mentionned, except I don't have the Hours per day option (step 6). Might you know why? Could this be the cause of my issue?
Thanks.

Nicolas -

Did you edit the Web part on the My Tasks page to show the timesheet grid
for daily time entry? Refer to the following

http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/AddTimesheetGridToMyTasks.asp

Also, you really should upgrade your Project Server 2007 system to SP1 plus
apply the August cumulative update. There are untold bug fixes in those two
updates. Hope this helps

Yes, you must ABSOLUTELY use the Hours of Work Done Per Period method of
tracking, set up for tracking on a daily basis. This is undoubtedly the
cause of your current problem. You will need to change the method of
tracking to this method of tracking, and then you should ask your PMs to
open and republish all of their projects. My guess is that you and your
team members will be able to enter task progress on a daily basis in the
timesheet grid on the My Tasks page. Hope this helps.

Also, thanks for the clue about the source of your problem. Your
self-diagnosis of the cause was the key to a solution. Thanks for your
help! :)
