Enterprise Calendar not working properly in Project

I am running a demo of Project Server 2007 on Windows Server 2k3 x64. Client
is Vista Business 32 bit SP1, Project Professional 2007 SP2. Project Server
is on SP2 (Build # 12.0.0.6421) on a single server install.

We have created a project using enterprise calendars. We get the calendar
created and setup for 11 hr days (6 AM – 11:30 AM, 12 PM – 5:30 PM). We
apply this calendar to the project as well as the work resources.

The problem we are having is that when we schedule a task to take any more
than 9 hrs the task will take 2 days on the project. We have tried to
verify everywhere that we can think of that the calendar is showing the 11 hr
day and it appears to be correct from everything I have read. If we click on
working time for resources it shows the correct schedule (11 hr day) but for
some reason it doesn’t stick within the project schedule.

As a side note when I was looking into the enterprise calendar that we have
setup for this project I inadvertently setup it up as a 6 1/2 hr work day (6
AM – 11:30 AM, 12 PM – 1 PM) and it did reflect on the project 9 hr tasks
would now take 2 days until I changed it back to the previous 11 hr day
setting.

FWIW it is also only on this project. Any other project that we have
created for testing purposes as after this it appears to work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Joe

Just a thought. Open the project and try the following:

1. Click Tools - Options - View.
2. Click the Date Format pick list and choose the "1/28/02 12:33 PM"
format.
3. Click the Calendar tab.
4. Set the Default Start Time value to 6:00 AM.
5. Set the Default Finish Time value to 5:30 PM.
6. Click the OK button.
7. Click Project - Project Information.

Examine the Start date AND time of the project. By chance, is the Start
time 8:00 AM instead of 6:00 AM? If so, change it to 6:00 AM. Then click
Tools - Options - View and set your Date Format back to your desired format.
Let us know if this helps at all.

In tools / options check the calendar tab and make sure it is set for the
workday you want. Duration is calculated from what's in the calendar tab for
the project options, not the resouce or task calendars.

Dale - You my friend are a golden god!

The only question left (hopefully) I have is if there is anyway to do a bulk
edit of the existing tasks start time. I noticed that if I created a new
task it defaulted to the new start time of 6 AM but the existing tasks still
showed the 8 AM start date.

Thanks again!!

Do you have Constraints on some of your tasks? If so, the date and time on
the Constraint would have defaulted to the 8:00 AM time. Double-click each
task with a Constraint and change the time to 6:00 AM if it is 8:00 AM. Let
us know if this helps.

You are more than welcome for the help. The biggest problem with setting a
calendar to start before 8:00 AM is exactly the problem you faced. Now you
know both the cause of, and solution to, the problem. :)
