Entourage 2004 Handheld Sync Conduit -- long overdue update??

Brian Riedel

Does anyone in the know have concrete info on development of an updated
handheld sync conduit for Entourage 2004 re long-awaited, much needed
additional functionality, e.g. syncing categories on calendar events,
location, etc?

Any third party solutions out there that are reliable?

Using Entourage 2004 / OS 10.4.9 / Missing Sync 4.0.6 / Cingular Palm Treo
650 and trying to implement GTD productivity management (categories are
key).

Thx.

To clarify:
* will Office 2008 include this functionality?
* any (doubtful) chance of a stand-alone Entourage 2004 conduit upgrade for
those not upgrading their Office suite?

I've been wondering about this myself. I've called Microsoft more than
once to tell them how important this is. I was using Missing Sync
conduits to ical and addressbook just to get better field mapping.
However, Entourage has far more data management functionality and I
would prefer to use it. I just dislike the lack of good field mapping
- Calendars not showing categegories which would provide colour,
location, addressbook placing all items that are home as work etc. I
don't know what Microsoft is planning here. They take my feedback but
who knows what's going on with 2008. I'm hoping they are going to even
provide a conduit. I'm worried they might let sync services do the
sync'g and they have such a lame way of addressing sync services which
Markspace is aware of. That is, very little valuable supportive
information is transferred to the sync services database e.g. All
calendars are stated as Entourage, categories in contacts are lost to
groups in addressbook etc. I'm really not sure how to get this
information to Microsoft to ensure we have a good sync solution for
our Palms.

I guess we'll have to stay tuned and see what Microsoft throws our way in
Office 2008.

With all of the PDA users out there, it is sort of hard to believe there's
not enough demand out there to warrant their paying attention to addressing
the crippling limitations of the existing conduit.

Yes - I would agree. Its hard to know though if they are paying
attention. And I am a bit worried they are going to let sync services
be their route to populate devices and that's fine but they have to
provide robust information to sync services so that it then populates
our Palms etc with detailed, well mapped info. Right now, it certainly
doesn't.
