Entourage 2008: Not enough memory errorsafter upgrade to Snow Leopard

Version: 2008
Processor: Intel
Email Client: pop

I cannot reply to long (not large in size) HTML formatted messages after upgrading to Snow Leopard. I also cannot use my HTML formatted signature. Plain text only.

I am running Office 2008 12.2.1. on a MacBook Pro with 2GB RAM.

Error message is "There is not enough memory to display the entire message." Entourage is the only application running when I receive this message.

When opening the emails, I receive the error message above; after clicking "OK" I get another message that says "Some text in this message is in a language your computer cannot display."

I reinstalled Office 2008 fonts, in case it was the Snow Leopard fonts that caused the error. I then "resolved duplicates" in Font Book to see if that helped. So far, nothing has worked.

Any suggestions?

Update: Arial is the font our company requires us to use; it is no longer available as an option in the Entourage menu. There are two versions of Arial on the system now; I have now disabled the new version of Arial and re-enabled the old version. That still did not solve the problem. But it certainly seems to be a font issue. I'd appreciate any guidance; I can't even view the email that this forum generated with my post above!

I would think trying to use an older version could cause problems. I've been
searching the Apple discussions on font issues and am working on a blog post
that summarizes the options to fix. I'll post a link shortly.

After changing the default fonts to Helvetica, I can at least type emails. But any of the 1000s of emails I wrote using Arial are unreadable until I start a "forward" email to anyone, select all, and change the font to something other than Arial. I can't preview any old message, I can't read any new reply to an old message. Any way to "by default" convert all my old mail to plain text, which I can still apparently read?

And one last discovery: all documents in Excel and Word that have Arial as their font (i.e., every last one my company writes) show up blank. I have to select all and change the font to get it to work. Any help restoring functionality of Arial across Office 2008 would be most welcome.

Arial is one of the fonts that has been updated in Snow Leopard. Delete
these fonts in the Microsoft fonts folder.

/Library/Fonts/Microsoft

Andale Mono
Arial
Arial Black
Arial Narrow
Arial Rounded Bold
Brush Script.ttf
Comic Sans MS
Georgia
Impact
Tahoma
Times New Roman
Trebuchet MS
Verdana
Wingdings 2
Wingdings 3

Same problem after a misapplied FileWave update of Entourage! And some
desperate scrabbling around to get this working. In our case, it was a
case of resetting the application by laying waste to a bunch of files
and folders...

~/Library/Preferences/com.microsoft.xxx.xxx.plist (all instances)
~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/ (entire folder)
~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Old Fonts (entire folder)
~/Library/Caches/ (all contents)
/Library/Fonts/Microsoft (entire folder)

This forced a first-run and made everything work again.
