Entourage doesn't handle IMAP email properly

Simply stated, Entourage doesn't handle IMAP email properly. Period.

We have an IMAP email account, and our email hosting company is using the extremely popular Courier-IMAP software.

We have told Entourage to save our drafts on the IMAP server.

However, after we save a draft message on the server and then send that email message later, Entourage PERMANENTLY LEAVES that one draft message as an "unread message" in the Drafts folder on the server, even after it sends the message and even after it successfully puts a copy of that message into the "Sent" folder on the server.

So, our "Drafts" folder on the IMAP server now has about 57 "unread messages" in it, which also show up as "unread messages" in Entourage... even though all 57 of these messages have already been successfully sent!!!

All because Entourage doesn't understand how to work with IMAP servers properly!

Why hasn't anybody at Microsoft addressed this issue?

Ask them!
This is a peer support group. You should use the Send Feedback command
in the Help menu in Entourage to let them know,

Because you have a problem with your mail account, that doesn't
necessarily mean Entourage is the cause of the problem. I have several
IMAP accounts using different server software and they work with the
Drafts folders just fine.
We have told Entourage to save our drafts on the IMAP server.

However, after we save a draft message on the server and then send

You may just need to empty you cache.

If you see this in just one or a handful of folders then right-click or
Control-click that folder, select Folder Properties and click the Empty
button to empty the cache. You can also select the account itself and
empty the cache for all of your folders.

Hope this helps!

Apologies. Those are Exchange instructions. For IMAP you can select
"Repair Message List".

Thanks for the ideas, but I tried all of those things. It is a known issue that Entourage does not properly handle IMAP servers that are running the "Courier-IMAP" server software. This doesn't surprise me, since Microsoft doesn't like to support open standards for ANY of the software, and only likes to stick to proprietary standards that they try to create. So this is an Entourage issue, and on a larger scale, a Microsoft issue.

I'm not aware of the issue with the Courier-IMAP servers, however,
Entourage does support standards unlike its Outlook for Windows counterpart.

Entourage supports standards such as WebDAV and MBOX and as you can see
does support IMAP too. There is no such thing as "Microsoft IMAP". What
is "standard" in the Courier-IMAP implementation that Entourage is not
following?
