Version: 2008
Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

When I try to open Entourage i get the following error message.

YOU DO NOT HAVE WRITE ACCESS TO THE ENTOURAGE FOLDER. TO RUN ENTOURAGE YOU MUST HAVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE REMOVE THE IDENTITIES FOLDER FROM THE APPLICATION FOLDER.

I also get the following error when running Word or Excel.

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE OFFICE DATABASE.

I have tried to repair the database but the database repair option errors.

I have also re-installed Office and upgraded to Office 2008-1212.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

When I try to open Entourage i get the following error message.

YOU DO NOT HAVE WRITE ACCESS TO THE ENTOURAGE FOLDER. TO RUN ENTOURAGE YOU
MUST HAVE THE ADMINISTRATIVE REMOVE THE IDENTITIES FOLDER FROM THE APPLICATION
FOLDER.

What type of account? (POP, IMAP, Exchange)

Did you install on a volume without admin privileges?
I also get the following error when running Word or Excel.

THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE OFFICE DATABASE.

I have tried to repair the database but the database repair option errors.

I have also re-installed Office and upgraded to Office 2008-1212.

Often this is bogus error. Simply remove the Microsoft User Data folder from
Documents to the Desktop. Let Entourage create a new MUD folder. Then you
can drag the contents of the MUD folder on your desktop to the newly created
folder.

Thanks Diane,

The volume installed is the only volume in the machine, and with admin privileges.
I re-installed Office for Mac and now I cannot complete the Microsoft Office Set up Assistant. When i enter data and click on continue, it errors and opens the Microsoft Error reporting window.

I cannot continue any further or even run Word or Excel !

Were you able to update successfully?

I am very suspicious that your base system files have problems. An Apple
combo updater might fix that, but you might need to do an "Archive &
Install" then update.
I cannot continue any further or even run Word or Excel !

Make sure that the MS Office folder's permissions are set as follows:

User: Read & Write
admin: Read & Write
Everyone: Read Only.

Permissions should be the same for all contents of that folder.

Another option is to move all MS preference files to the desktop
temporarily, then run the installer. Restore the preferences to their
original location after installation.

After install, I was able to apply updates to ver 1212.

Permissions appear to be set correctly.

After install, I was able to apply updates to ver 1212.

Run this script and see if you get these results:

Logs are meant for developers. Most of us can do very little with them, but
sometimes a clue will alert us like the frameworks errors.

You can skip the Setup Assistant. Are you able to launch the applications?

I cannot skip the Office Setup Assistant, and therefore cannot launch any applications !

At least we know you have updated successfully.

1) create a new User in System Preferences and see if the Office
applications will launch there. If not...

2) download and run the Apple combo updater.

Mac OS X 10.5.3 Combo Update (For both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macs )

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/troubleshoot/combo.html>

3) if that fails, you might need to do an "Archive & Install"

Let me know what you find.
