entourage fails to check mail on opening

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

Entourage no longer checks for mail when first launched unless I manually ask it to send and receive. It does automatically check every 5 minutes as scheduled but no longer checks on first opening. Any ideas?

Does your schedule indicate "at startup"?

I had no idea how to check for that but thanks so much for the hint, I finally figured it out. A double click on the send and receive schedule opened it up.
