EPM 2003: archiving the project and version list

Vit

Hi all,

I'm trying to understand what is the best practice on archiving
project...

surfing on the web I havo found the folloving:
http://www.projectserverexperts.com/ProjectServerFAQKnowledgeBase/ArchiveCompletedProjects.aspx
and it seems to be the "best way" to archive the project...

I was playing around the version list (in the "Save in Project Server"
popup window)

I have custonized the list ad add a "Closed" version with Archive
field set up as "Yes".

the problem is when I archived the project, save and republished I
have found another project in the pwa... one .published and
one .closed..

I'm a little confused on this feature... why I have now two version...
is not possible to vlose the project and that's it????!?!??!?!

thanks all

cheers

The Version capability in Project Server 2003 will not solve your archiving
problem, as you have already discovered. The default Version of every
project is the Published version. If your Project Server administrator sets
up additional Versions, you can also save each project using an alternate
Version. One good use for the Versioning feature is to save an original
copy of a project immediately after Baselining the project, so that later
you can compare your original copy of the project with the final finished
Published copy of the project at project closure using the Compare Projects
utility.

So, let me just restate that the Versions feature will not solve your
problem. If you don't have budget funds to spend on an add-on tool, you
should use the methodology we developed. If you have funds available, you
might consider purchasing the Physical Archive Tool, available at:

http://www.projectmadeeasy.com/archive.htm

Hope this helps.
