the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message,
contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Any one have any ideas?

The usual solution is to turn off email scanning in your antivirus
application. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813518/en-us "Error
message when you view a POP3 e-mail account with antivirus software
installed: The operation timed out waiting for a response from the
receiving (POP) server 0x8004210a" for more information.

Let me elaborate; I have Vista with Outlook 2007. I have removed
Norton with no effect. I have wrangled with my ISP to the point they
replaced the Modem. I loaded the XP 3 Service pack during my
troubleshooting. I shut down the Window Firewall, Set up Outlook
Express and imported to Outlook trick, uninstalled and re-installed
two email accounts at least 4 times at the suggestion of ATT Tech
support, had to convince 8 techs the email server account information
was correct, did at "netsh Winsock reset catalog" (internet
suggestion), uninstalled tcp/ip and reinstalled it to reset the TCP
Stack (another internet suggestion), and finally had a technician
install a new modem. Both of my email accounts exhibit this problem. I
have two Laptops connected by intranet but neither has this problem.
I hope this explains the frustration I have been going through for the
last month trying to get it to work. Any help I can get will be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

What is "the XP 3 Service pack"? There is no such thing as a
Service Pack 3 for either Windows Vista or Office 2007, and it
should be impossible to apply any existing Service Pack 3 to
either Windows Vista or Office 2007.

What version of Norton? Did I suggest that you remove your
antivirus application?

I don't think this is a software or hardware problem.

The XP SP 3 was while I was trying to originally trouble shoot the
Outlook 2003 with Windows XP when I first started to have the problem.

Many suggestions were to shut off Norton I did that and it still
didn't work. If this is not a software or hardware problem, that
doesn't leave much else to work on does it?
Got any other suggestions?

There is no such thing as Service Pack 3 for Windows XP, or Windows
Vista, or Office 2003, or Outlook 2003, or Office 2007, or Outlook 2007.
So I ask again, what is "the XP SP 3" that you keep referencing?

And I ask again, what version of Norton? The thing about Norton
Antivirus is that it has a number of components. Turning off or
uninstalling the main antivirus component does not necessarily turn off
or uninstall some of the other components. A classic example of this is
Norton Antivirus' Microsoft Office Plugin, which can remain installed
and active until you explicitly use the Norton software interface to
turn off the plugin, or until you manually unregister the plugin's .dll
file in Windows if you uninstalled Norton. This is why I suggested that
you turn off the email scanning function in your antivirus application.
I did not suggest that you turn off your antivirus application, nor
did I suggest that you uninstall your antivirus application.

It seems a number of other people besides me have tried to help you.
And it seems you are not listening to the people who have tried to help
you, you are not following the instructions given by the people who have
tried to help you, you are doing what you feel like doing, and you
refuse to tell us what you are doing. If you really want other
suggestions, then here are two... I suggest you provide the specific
additional information requested by the people trying to help you, and I
suggest you stop wasting people's time and bandwidth asking for
suggestions if you are going to ignore those suggestions anyway.

After reading this thread I must agree and echo what garfield-n-odie said to you.

If you installed that BOGUS SP3 that has been posted lately on the Vista and XP newsgroups then you are sadly mistaken that you have SP3
Apart from that shutting down the Norton integration(email scanning) does not always work with Norton. You need to uninstall Norton using their uninstall tool available only from the Symantec site. Once uninstalled you then re-install Norton without enabling the email integration.

Try the above and see if it has fixed your issue.

Otherwise stop calling wolf and read and understand correctly all that has been asked of you to help you with your issue.

I started with Windows XP, Office 2000 SP2 and Outlook 2003 when the
problem started. Microsoft suggested that I load Office XP SP3 as a
fix. It is not bogus. Does that straighten that out for your. I was my
error noting that this system has Vista. It is still Windows XP but I
upgraded Office to 2007.

I know how to uninstall using thier tool and edit the Register to
remove it. It didn't fix the problem. In my best troubleshoot manner,
this proves that the Norton email integration is not the problem since
it is not there. I will not reinstall it until this problem is fixed.

Try the above and see if it has fixed your issue.

I have other problems with Norton 2005 at other times and have removed
it to prevent this problem. So, does that answer your questions? If
not, let me know what else you want to know.

I'm seeing the same problem on a single user's PC. It's a Dell Latitude
notebook running Windows XP and Office 2007 Professional. It came with McAfee
and I temporarily disabled the email portion to no avail.

I also checked the versions of inetcomm.dll on the laptop and found two, one
in c:\i386 dated 6/22/07 with a version # of 6.0.2900.3138. The other copy
was in c:\windows\system32 and had the same version number, but it was dated
8/11/04, which is a little suspicious to me.

Any ideas?
