Error 170 Cookieauth.dll

O

obsrving

I guess my old message was buried under the tons of new messages since,
so I am starting up a new one in hopes that someone might see it and
have some useful info.

Here is what I think may be happening, when I attempt to send an email
from entourage 2004 I am getting "An unknown error (170) has occurred"
after the screen prints that I had a logon error do I want to retry and
select no. Entourage works fine on the internal network directly
talking to exchange.

I kept looking through what was going on when loging in through safari
and the only thing I noticed was that I was using cookieauth.dll in the
strings. If I tried to use owaauth.dll I would either get an unknown
error or it would just not log me in. I also tried going to the
page.company.com site without exchange on the end, or with exchweb or a
number of other combinations and ONLY /exchange/ would get me in, even
though all of them would show me a login page (they would just show me
the logout page).

BTW the site is SSL only and I cannot do a dump of the actual traffic,
nor can I get someone to change anything server sude. I am on a mac,
therefor alone in the dark world of corporate America.

In my search I found:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/909268/en-us

If I am reading correctly, I think we have found a winner. The default
way of operation in Exchange 2003 is to use cookie based authentication
with isa. The issue is that Entourage 2004, a product released after
exchange 2003, does not allow cookie based authentication. Is that
what I am reading or am I missing something? Is there any way to get
around this without having the server changed? Please don't even
suggest that, it just won't happen and I am betting 99% of the people
with entourage are in similar situations.

Is cookie based authentication going to be part of entourage/office
2007 mac?
