Error 17895 - please help

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: imap I use Entourage daily with two Gmail IMAP accounts. I pretty much get the message "Error 17895 - connection to the server failed or was dropped" once a day, sometimes even twice. When the msg appears, it is usually for one of my two accounts.

I use the Live Sync option for both, by the way.

But is it normal to be experiencing these errors on a regular basis? It kind of bothers and worries me that it keeps recurring every day.

Try turning the option off.

I have Gmail IMAP and never have this problem. How do you have your schedule
set to connect? It might be too short a cycle. I use every 10 minutes.

Some servers aren't so good at managing multiple connects and barf. The
checkbox 'Send Commands to server simultaneously' should help deal with
these challenged servers. This checkbox defaults to true. This checkbox is
in the options tab of the account options dialog for your imap server. Turn
it off and give it a try. This tells Entourage to be more single minded and
should be gentler on the server.

Hi Diane,
I also have it scheduled for every 10 mins, so I guess we can rule this out.

But I'll try disabling "Send commands to server simultaneously" and see if it helps at all. For now I'll just leave the Live Sync option on, though, and if it doesn't help, I'll see what happens if I turn that as well.

I'll report back in a couple of days.

Hi,

if you have LiveSync enabled, then there is no point in using a schedule
that checks for incoming messages; you will be notified anyway, as Entourage
maintains a constant communication link with the IMAP server via LiveSync.
See if disabling the schedule solves your problem.

Okay, so even with disabling "Send commands to server simultaneously" the error still pops out at least once a day.

I will now try what Michel has suggested and report back in a couple of days again.

To no avail. Now perhaps it has to do with Live Sync, but I don't really want to disable that because I like to receive my msgs instantaneously!

What else is there to do?

Did you ever try turning off live sync?
