error 3051

Hello,

I have linked excel documents into an access 2k database . When the actual
excel file , that has a linked table in access, is open in Excel it is not
possible to view the linked data in access.

It comes up with error 3051 The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open
the file <name>. It is
already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view
its data.

I have not been able to find an answer to this question after searching
google for hours. Could some one please help!!!!!!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
