error sending email

Dennis Holden

We configured a dial account for Compuserve Classic using

pop.compuserve.com and
smtp.compuserve.com

We can receive messages, but we can't send them. We are
seeing error number 0x800CCC78, as follows:

The message could not be sent because the server rejected
the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address
was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject 'den',
Account: 'CompuServe', Server: 'smtp.compuserve.com',
Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 5.1.3 Denied', Port:
25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number:
0x800CCC78

Can you help?

Thanks,
Dennis

Hello Dennis,
It seems that your sever requires Server
Authentication. So Please go into Accounts Proprties and check the option
for My Server Requires Authentication. Please let me know if it works.

N.Masroor Ahmed, thank you for your response. It turned
out it was CompuServe's issue. "Classic" accounts are
unsupported and their standard documentation does not
mention that your account must be on a certain server for
POP3 support. I eventually found a PDF file with that
obscure fact in it. CompuServe Classic users can verify
they are on the correct server by entering "Go Newmail"

Thanks again, fortunately it was not an Outlook bug.

Regards,
Linda
