Excel 97 Dr Watson error when using VLOOKUP

I have a user who has a workbook with multiple worksheets
in. She is trying to use a VLOOKUP command to grab data
from a separate sheets. Every time she does this she gets
a Dr Watson error for Excel.exe and just crashes out.

I have tried the same on my own PC (same version as users)
and I dont get any problems at all. Note: this is not a
completely standard build of MS Excel but customised for
our company with patches that have been put on.

Anyone have any ideas?

Just to add another note which I forgot before..we use an
SMS tool to remote control the users desktop. If I take
over and run the VLOOKUP commands it works fine, but if
the user then takes over it comes up with the Dr Watson
error.
