Excel for Mac is Disgustingly Bad

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I use Excel for Windows every day at work. I love the Mac and I tried desperately to like Office for Mac.

IT IS REALLY REALLY REALLY BAD. I have just tried for 10 minutes to do a SUMIF formula. It just doesn't act anything like the version for windows. When trying to create the formula excel is doing completely illogical things. Completely frustrated.

I didn't think I would have to relearn Excel by buying the Mac version. Its soooooo obvious Microsoft doesn't really want you to switch.

This is totally to avoid anti trust litigation.

Your mistake is using Office 2008. MS took out VBA. I actually was overjoyed, because it meant that I would never want to/have to up(down?)grade from Office 2004 or even Office X.

Seems to work fine here. In order to figure it out you'll need to be much
more explicit about the problem itself:

Exact update of Office & OS X
Structure of the data
Specific formula as written in your file
What are the "illogical things"?

Completely frustrated.

The SUMIF function itself works exactly the same in both Win and MacXL
versions.

The formula wizards work differently, but they're self-consistent.

Without at least a little bit of detail about what "completely illogical
things" means, it's impossible to help.

But then, you don't appear to be asking a question.

And the constructive part of your reply would be...?

Stick with Office 2004 or Office X. I have looked at a lot of the correspondence in this forum, and a commonality is that the problems seem to be occurring in Office 2008. I don't think I have seen any questions relating to Office 2004 (except mine, which has not merited a response, let alone a solution).

Do you think that perhaps the fact that Office 2004 has been in use for over
5 years and X is over 8 years old might have just a little influence on
that? I have no statistics to base my observations on, but in any forum I
visit there seems to be far more focus on newer releases than older versions
of whatever the product happens to be... You don't see too many inquiries
about Performa 630CD Macs on the Apple site, for example.

BTW: Although I can't speak for anyone else, but I had seen your question
re. Excel borders in HTML files. I hadn't responded because I do practically
nothing with that particular process. I truly expected that someone else
might pick up on it. Since nobody has, however, I did a little investigation
& you now have a reply :)
