file open dialog freezes

I have installed the Office 2007 trial over my Office 2000 version (Got a
Blackberry that doesn't support 2000). When I do a file open (Outlook,
Excel, Word) the file open dialog comes up. When I first start to browse, I
get a message box saying "Initializing root folder to display". It goes away
in about 5 seconds and shows me the directory I selected. I then click to
select a sub-directory and the applciation locks for up to a minute. The
dialog box can't be moved. Eventually it comes back but with no change to
the directory list (ie you can't tell it came back). I then click on a
sub-directory and it opens normally. Any suggestions.

The delay you are encountering could be due to the Office application
searching for an unavailable network drive. If you have any unavailable
mapped drives try disconnecting them and see if that resolves the issue.

Thank you very much. That was exactly it. A missing mapped dirve Z: that was
at least 3 yrs old and had never caused any symptoms until now.

I am new to this forum, and this is probably inappropriate to bring up a new
topic, but when I find a smart and responsive person out there...
Sometimes my outlook rules don't forward to my balckberry, but usually they
do (80%). Is this a new post? If not, outlook shows that they are haven't
been forwarded. I have 2 rules that mostly work fine. 1 - delete junk (my ISP
puts [BULK] in the subject ) which works fine with Outlook 2000. 2 - Forward
anything that doesn't have [ECOS] in the subject (a group I subscribe to) to
my blackberry. It seems that things work fine for a while and then the
forwarding stops. If I go in an review the rules, and exit with out changes
the next incoming is forwarded properly.
Suggestions?

You should create a new post for new topics. That way the current thread can
be "closed" and so you get a fresh set of eyes on your new question.

As for your current question, I'm sorry but I don't have any suggestions for
you other than to check your rules again and make sure you don't have any
that are in conflict with each other. You should also make sure your rules
are ordered by priority. If your forward rule is the most important then
make sure it's first in the rules list and I also add "Stop processing more
rules" as well. If it's something else then perhaps someone else can offer a
suggestion or you may want to post this in the Outlook newsgroup since
that's where the Outlook experts hang out. :)
