File Space vs Workspace

Hi,

I have been using File Space sharing for a while now and it has worked
reasonably well for me. Now I am thinking about changing my OS to a x64 bit
and Groove file space sync does not work BUT workspace sharing does.

I did a few tests with workspace and it seems once the files are added into
workspace they are in "Groove world" somewhere. They must be somewhere on my
notebook since I can access them when I am diconnected from the network.

So first question - Where are all the files?

When you edit a file I see a copy created in my profile\appdata\local\temp
and then when I save changes Groove pops up and says "I say changes do you
want to save them in Groove?" This implies to me that the original Groove
file is not being edited. If I save it back to Groove then it syncs to the
other Grooves. But the temp file is still sitting in the temp folder. Any way
to get rid of it? Also is there a way to get Groove to not ask the question
and just save the document?

Is there a good document anywhere that tells me of all the features and how
they work?

Are people here using file shares or workspaces? And then what of Live Mesh?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Thank you

The Standard Workspace files are in an encrypted container on your harddrive.
Groove Standard Workspace uses you temp directory when you are modifying
files and you will always have to click "save changes to groove". I believe
the temp file will disappear when you save the file for the last time of a
session and close out the Application (word, excel, etc.). We use both File
Sharing workspaces and Standard workspaces. The File Sharing workspaces
contain documents that we have to do a lot of searching on (using WDS in
Vista). The Standard workspace files do not require searching. I have not
used Live Mesh.

There are not too many posts in this newsgroup, you should go back to the
beginning and read everything. Should only take about 2 hours and you'll get
a good idea of File Sharing versus Standard as well as some other good Groove
tips.

I have used a combination of Live Mesh and Groove to work-around some of the
64 bit issues. Groove, however, was developed for a work environment, while
Live Mesh, on the other hand, is a more casual method of sharing.

Also, when you put a file in you Live Desktop, it is sitting on a server
somewhere. Whereas, depending on your Groove setup, files in Groove are on
your computer. Think about the security implications of that if security is
an issue for you.

You can "Mesh" and "Groove" a folder at the same time.

I did run into an issue doing that with Microsoft Reader files however.
