Formulas in Chart Titles Axis Titles

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Intel Is there way to have Chart Titles and Axis Titles have formulas that calculate the resultant text?

As far as I know, the appropriate method is to have the formula (that
constructs the text) in a worksheet cell so that the title is a reference to
a single cell.

That's one way. another is to enter an = sign int he text box for the
axis title and then click on the cell, or build the formula text
manually. press enter, and the axis text will be constructed.

I cannot get either method to work. What every I type into the title text box is what I see. So if I type in a formula I see the formula including the "=" sign. Is there som sort of setting I need to set?

I'm betting you're typing the expression directly into the chart element
itself, but that isn't the 'text box' that was meant :) Type the expression
into the Chart Options> Titles text box in the Toolbox/Formatting Palette
[Where it says "Click here to add title"]. I.e., If the cell you want to use
for the content is C15 on SheetX type the expression as:

=SheetX!C15

Then press return. (Don't omit the ! Between the sheet name & the cell
reference.) If you change the content of cell C15 the title will update to
reflect the change.
