Microsoft's Small Business Accounting report package neglects one of the most
basic accounting reports by not offering a General Ledger report. The
Detailed Transaction Journal is insufficient because it excludes GL ledger
accounts in periods where no transactions are posted. Even if a specific GL
account doesn't have current period transactions, the beginning and ending
balances are pertinent in the analysis of financial information.
Additionally, the General Ledger report and the Detailed Transaction Report
should contain the option to select a specific GL account or range of GL
accounts.

As a CPA with over 20 years of financial reporting experience, I'm
isurprised that Microsoft's development team for this software could have
omitted such an essential, basic accounting report. As a shareholder in
MSFT, I'm concerned from a competitive advantage standpoint. In the future,
you should include CPAs with financial reporting experience on your
development team for accounting software. I'll be sending another flaw I've
found in the GL posting process that somewhat with an accounting background
would have caught and communicated to your development team.
