Getting "Preparing to Send Messages" in Entourage 2004

Version: 2004 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) Processor: Power PC Email Client: imap Several times a day when I'm using Entourage a message box pops up that says "Preparing to Send Messages." It's related to my IMAP account and the number generally increases, though that number doesn't relate to any number of messages that I can find. Sometimes it works very quickly, other times it takes a couple minutes, but it happens oftentimes when I'm in the middle of typing an e-mail and locks me out of doing my work. Any idea why this happens, and how to get it to stop, or does this version of Entourage just not handle IMAP very well?
