How do I enter a milestone date that is BC?

I want to build a timeline of history with dates prior to 1 AD, i.e., B.C.
For instance, how would I place the overthrow of Bablyon by Persia in 539
B.C.?

time line is limited to what the operating system understands, i.e. not
before about 1900ad.
