How do I modify the ruler?

I have changed the units of measure to inches, but the ruler still shows as
points. Help!!

I have seen this happen as well and am not sure what causes it exactly, but
it tends to happen (to me) when I receive a document from abroad (usually
France) and found that the Ruler untis are still denoted as Centimetre but
displays Points.
It does not seem to be an indicator of any corruption, so don't worry about
that.
The only way to reset is to save, close Word and reopen Word, back to cm's
until the next document lands in my Inbox ;-)

The are character units and not points. It is usually caused by enabling
support for some far eastern languages. But see fellow colleague Graham

Terry, interesting point I shall have to keep an eye on exactly where my
foreign files originate when this happens again. The units I see are
definitely Points, I have never seen the Character Units as descibed on the
article.
