How do i not share detailed tasks in a master schedule?

I'm working in Project 2003 - we have a master schedule that has several
imported projects as sub-schedules, and then the master schedule is going to
be incorporated into a larger master schedule on Project Server - but we
don't want to share the lowest level of detail tasks with the Project Server
version. is there any way to not incorporate those tasks? i've tried creating
external predecessors, but i still end up with an extra task line that throws
the whole plan off...
