how do I show the full folder path in search results?

One of the really frustrating things I find with Outlook is that the search
results only shows the containing folder for any matched results, not the
full folder path. This is really frustrating when you have a large folder
structure and you have more than one terminating folder with the same name.

For example, if I have \...\Hardware\Intel and \...\Software\Intel folders,
and search within my message store, if the matched item was in
\...\Software\Intel, the search result will only display "Intel" as the
folder field.

How can I set up the search procedure to return the WHOLE folder path of
matched items, instead of just the last one?

Thanks in advance,
Peter

its not possible in Outlook. This is one reason we don't recommend using a
lot of folders and subfolders - keep everything in fewer folders and use
views and search folders to separate them.

Thanks so much for the prompt response (again!) Diane!

I know I should be using a better management tool for organising and
managing (and archiving) email. I was heavily involved in the rollout of
Outlook 98 in a global corporation way back when, and the possibility of a
single point of management seemed quite exciting. Outlook has always seemed
the simplest solution for an email message manager, since all the data is
contained within a single data structure, rather than scattered over hundreds
of disk folders. Even with 4+Tb of storage, that's a lot of individual files
and folders!

I'll keep looking for a good management tool outside of Outlook.

But thanks again!

I believe xobni, google desktop search, Windows desktop search (I know WDS
one does) and most other outside search tools will show the full path.

Pete, Diane:

There is a good script posted at http://www.biterscripting.com/SS_FindEmailStrs.html
that will show full paths of email files with the search results. For
example, the biterscripting command

scr SS_FindEmailStrs.txt storagedir("email storage folder") files
("*.eml") search_strings("hello") lines(100)

will show a list of all email files that contain the search word
"hello". Files will be listed with full folder path.

To use that script,

1. Install biterscripting free from http://www.biterscripting.com/install.html
..

2. Start biterscripting. Install all sample scripts with the command

script "http://www.biterscripting.com/Download/SS_AllSamples.txt"

3. Search email by calling the script SS_FindEmailStrs as above.

I have also seen postings by others on the web that show how to use
biterscripting for searching emails. I find it pretty useful.
