How to regenerate picture files from images embedded in Word?

I would like to extract a couple of pictures that, alas, only exist
embedded as part of a Word document any more into individual graphic
files (e.g. .bmp or .gif or .jpg).

Usually I do this using copy-paste of the images (e.g. into Paint) and
normally this works without problems.

In this case, however, all pictures beyond a certain size are truncated
at the right (i.e. about 1/3 of the picture is missing). In the document
I *do* see the entire picture and I also changed the scale of the
pictures to 100% to avoid distortions or information loss. There also is
no cropping defined (i.e. all Crop-fields are at 0).

How can I extract these files in their full size and with their entire
contents?

Ah - importing the Word file into OpenOffice did the trick. Not only
does the Copy work properly there, it even offers an option "Save
graphics..." (to a file) command, when right-clicking on an image.

Finally a reason to switch to OO. :)
