hyperlinks not working with pound/hash sign in folder name

In Outlook 2007 (SP1) one of our users is experiencing problems with
hyperlinks to files on a mapped network drive.

For example:

S: maps to \\SERVER\Share

They create a hyperlink to:

S:\#Projects\Project 001\Overview.doc

Outlook converts this to:

\\SERVER\Share\#ProjectsProject 001Overview.doc

Note that the '\' after the folder with the '#' are missing.

Is this a known issue? If so is there a fix?

Many thanks,

the pound sign is a valid character for a folder or file name, but it is not
a valid character for use in a hyperlink - in hyperlinks it represents a
bookmark.
