I/O Error during Rebuild

A

I've been having some problems with Entourage since upgrading to
Leopard, namely problems with receiving mail if I've left Entourage
open while I put my computer to sleep. I've worked around that
problem by turning it off when I put my computer to sleep, but when I
attempted to rebuild the database after a verification said there was
a problem, the rebuild has consistently stopped early in the process
and given me an I/O error. I've run Onyx to repair my disk and
permissions, but nothing wrong was found. Is there anyway to fix this
problem?

Please help!!

I/O error almost always means disk damage.

If you are positive your disk is OK, you could try exporting your data as an
Entourage archive (.rge) selecting to delete after export. Then re-import.
Be sure to duplicate our Identity first.

If that doesn't work create a new Identity and import your .rge file. You
will need to recreate your accounts, but you can drag over your rules and
signature files. You'll have to open each and reset folder destination.

If after all of this, you are still experiencing problems, I would take a
second look at your drive. You might need to wipe the drive and run a
utility that will block out bad blocks.

Be sure to update frequently. IF you drive goes, you'll have your data.

How is your account set up? I had a user who ran into this same issue. I
found nothing wrong with her hard disk. Luckily, she is using an IMAP
account and we were able to just delete her account in Entourage and recreate
it without losing anything. This seemed to fix it. When we deleted the
account, all Calendar and Contact items were saved. You might give this a
shot and see how it works out!
