iCal Entourage Sync Issue

Address Book syncs fine but iCal and Entourage just won't sync. I've tried several different things, not necessarily in this order:

Reset Sync Services
Reinstall iCal
Delete iCal preferences
Rebuild the Entourage database

I tried the following I picked up from this forum:

1) Back up your iCal calendars using the Backup... menu item in iCal. (I backed mine up to the Desktop, but you can put it anywhere.) Quit iCal.
2) Turn off iCal syncing in Entourage. Quit Entourage.
3) Open System Preferences and turn off Calendar syncing in the .Mac Sync tab (if you use it).
4) Navigate to your user folder>Library>Preferences folder. Drag the com.apple.iCal.plist file to the Trash.
5) Navigate to the Calendars folder inside your user folder>Library and drag everything in there to the Trash. (As a precaution, don't yet empty the Trash.)
6) Open iCal. It should have reverted to its unmodified state, i.e., it only has Work and Home calendars.
7) Open Entourage and turn iCal syncing back on. In the popup dialog box, select the first option, Merge Information. Click OK (or Sync, I can't remember).
Go back to iCal. Your calendar information should now match Entourage's.
9) If everything is correct, turn .Mac syncing back on (if you use it).
10) Create a test calendar event in Entourage, save it, and switch to iCal. Give it up to 30 seconds or so and it should appear in iCal.

When I did this, it took several minutes before the Entourage calendar appeared in iCal but none of the events from Entourage ever showed up. My Entourage database is large so I wonder if it just takes it forever to sync?

I tried this one too:
The following steps (which reset iCal) should fix the problem:

1. Disable calendar syncing in Entourage
2. Quit Entourage
3. Quit iCal
4. Delete:

~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.AlarmScheduler.plist
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.helper.plist
~\library\preferences\com.apple.iCal.plist

5. Next delete the contents of

~\library\application support\iCal

6. Relaunch iCal
7. Relaunch Entourage
8. Enable calendar syncing in Entourage

Although I could never find library/application support/ical. In any case, this didn't work either.

It would really be nice to get iCal to sync with Entourage so that I could finally sync my iPhone.
Any ideas would beappreciated.

You seem to be doing the right things. I know I eventually edited Entourage so that repeating events started within the last 6 months (some had been going on for year) and ended in 2012 (which they probably won't). I also looked at Calendar in the list view and deleted everything from 2004 through 2006. I did all this because i've had different problems syncing with MM and some idiosyncratic disasters. I noted on various forums suggestions of modifying the duration of various repeating events etc.

You also should check in iCal peferences that it's configured identically - like how long you want events to be maintained after they take place, or to do list items after they're completed, length of the business day etc.

Thanks for the ideas. I slimmed down my database by eliminating years of old events and emails then I rebuilt the database. But iCal still won't sync with the new database. It seems iCal and Entourage are all set up properly. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Ijust reinstalled iCal after I had some syncing problems but data had
been in it before it was wiped by a disastrous sync - and I got that data
back in. I also got Entourage to overwrite all the data in iCal and for
the moment both are syncing fine. You might try clearing things up. You
can archive your whole existing calendar - export>tasks & calendar > mainidentity.rge
I always label mine main identiity cal tasks <date>. Leave your data in
Entourage - so now you have the backup and all the data that's there -
now edit and clear up the data and see if you can get it to work.
