Import eps file

R

Roger

Do I need to have a program installed on my computer that can generate eps
files in order to import an eps file into Publisher? A graphic artist
created our logo and gave it to us in a variety of formats, including eps. I
cannot read the eps logo on my computer (I can read the jpg and tif files).
When I try to insert the eps file into Publisher, it just brings in a blank
picture. The jpg and tif file formats are looking grainy in the document,
which is why I want to use the eps.

Thanks for your help.

Even though you are importing your *.eps file and seeing it blank on the
screen, more than likely it should still print out (this is caused by not
saving a preview of eps with the eps file). Have you tried printing?

Thanks for the reply. I just tried to print and it does not print the eps
logo. Any other ideas?

In addition to Brian's response, a workaround is to print to PDF. PDF
printer drivers such as PrimoPDF (www.primopdf.com) and Adobe Acrobat
(www.adobe.com) are simply PostScript drivers that convert the PostScript
data to PDF format ("distill" is the technical term)

If you install one of the drivers above and print to a PDF file instead of
your printer, the EPS data should pass straight through to the driver. The
driver will then distill it to a PDF, which will open for display in Adobe
Reader (which should then display the EPS graphic properly).
You can then print from Adobe Reader to your favourite printer.

I am having exactly the same problem. My commercial printer has no problem
reading the file and has made a PDF for me to see. but how can I ensure that
the originator of the EPS, in future includes a Tiff preview. What is he not
doing?

Thanks

You need to have the EPS saved as a lower version, maybe Illustrator 8 or
5.5 and them import that. Most likely it's the code that is freaking out
Publisher.
