Hi

I wish to confirm that my only two choices to move several hundred megabytes of email from Outlook Express 5.0.6 on iBook running OS 9.2.2 to a new MacBookPro OS X 10.5 Leopard with Office 2008 are:

1) Install Office 2004 import, export to 2008, delete office 2004 and hope it does not harm 2008. And does completely delete cleanly.
2) Manually or via script export all folders to desktop then drag into Entourage 2008.

Will email send/receive dates be retained in the option 2 manual/script folder drag? Or are all emails going to look like they came in today?

It seems easier to import from ancient Windows tnan from old Mac... I ask because I am having trouble explaining how this get-new-computer-ready can be so complicated to person I am migrating for.

I know you will not have an answer for these 'philosophical' design questions, so perhaps just please forward to Mac Business unit:
Is this really the state that Entourage 2008 has gotten --
That Entourage 2004 did know how to import MS OE 5 Mac but they threw that code out of Entourage 2008?
Why would Microsoft development team specify that there is no longer a direct way for someone to move up from old OS9 Mac to new Leopard Mac when using the system-appropriate Microsoft email client on each?

Just hoping that they remember there are people using older computers.

THank you.

Other options:

1) Use Apple Mail to import, then import into Entourage 2008.

Mac OS X 10.0: Mail Import From Outlook Express Requires "Microsoft User
Data" Folder <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106352>

ITS: Desktop Support: Apple Macintosh: Import e-mail into Apple Mail

..html>

2) Export as MBOX files from OE. Export contacts as tab delimited. Import
files into Entourage 2008

Dragging folders to the desktop creates MBOX files. There are scripts that
will do this for you automatically, but none for OE.

No problems there as long as you install Office 2004 BEFORE Office 2008.
Office 2008 removes Office 2004 fonts.

You can always sort by Sent rather than received.

I was surprised that they left out OE too. Just think of the future where
only Intel will be supported. Snow Leopard will be the first step.
