importing/storing OneNote files in EMR

Adam

I am a physician and want to use OneNote to take patient notes with this
application and then export the note into my Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Hence, when I am looking up a patient visit in my EMR I want to be ablet to
see the image of my OneNote patient encounter. When I try to find the file
using my EMR (ComChart - a FileMaker based program), I cannot find the files.
Presumably the program doesn't recognize the suffix. I don't want to be
able to modify the notes once they are transferred to my EMR. In fact it is
far better that they are unmodifiable as this is medicolegally more
defendable. I can cut and paste handwritten text from the OneNote into the
EMR - it looks pixelated/strange. I would prefer to be able to transfer the
entire note.
How and where are OneNote files stored so I can import them? Is there a
"save as" function? I can import text files readily from word and other
applications. I can also import common graphic formats.

Adam,

OneNote can be used to supplement and support a number of functions of an
EMR. The Beta of our OneNote EMRToolkit is available for free from the
website in my sig.

It draws patient demographic data from an Access DB, or it could be from any
other PMS system. It also directly imports a number of graphic formats
directly into OneNote per your later question.

Have you looked in you My Notes folder for your notes?

Feel free to email me, if you'd like additional information.

Hope this helps,

Fritz

Fritz:

I thank you for your reply. I already have an office EMR "ComChart". I need
a way of taking onenote template notes and importing them into ComChart. If
your EMR can do this as a EMR word processor, that might be helpful, but
using 2 EMRs in order to use the tabletPC is cumbersome. You might consider
taking part of your product so that it can be used to integrate with any EMR
so it becomes the tablet PC EMR plug-in of choice. What do you think? You
would create a marketplace that includes all current EMR users, not just de
novo users shopping for an EMR.

If you have Office2003, you can save Onenote files as Word docs, which your
system should be able to import. Depending on how extensive your use of
Onenote's unique layout capabilities are the notes may not look the same in
Word or your EMR tool though.

Adam,

Those are very helpful suggestions, we are looking at useful ways to use
information in/out OneNote. Our product, as a Toolkit, should be used in
conjunction with an EMR, not replacing one as you suggest. We appreciate
the feedback.

Best wishes.
