inbox messages will not send

Task 'imap.aol.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : 'Unable to send
the message. Please verify the e-mail address in your account properties.
The server responded: 501 SYNTAX ERROR IN PARAMETERS OR ARGUMENTS'

what is the steps needed to correct this

It would help if you stated where you got stuck ;-)

Did it ever work before? What change did you make before it got broken?

To me it looks like the AOL server is expecting a proper aol address and is
not getting this. Tools-> Account Settings-> Next will give you an overview
of configured accounts. Open your AOL account and see if the email address
is filled in correctly.

it worked awhile ago, I cannot find out when it stopped but I did send last
month, I only use this site once in awhile for school. the tool settings you
spoke of I cannot find I click tools and internet options are as close as I
found, but no account settings. Please walk me through the process I am an
idot, but I am 40+ and now attending college online and am recieving brain
dammage so please bear with me.

Don't click that in Internet Explorer but choose that when you are in
Outlook.

Alternatively, open Control Panel, run the Mail applet, and click E-mail
Accounts>Next.
