I created a toolbar with a button for the "Insert Symbol" command. When in
edit mode, the button is disabled but the menu option isn't. For inserting a
symbol at the end of text, this is OK - get out of edit mode (putting the
focus on the entire cell), click the button, choose the symbol to insert, and
the application will insert the symbol at the end. If you want to insert a
symbol within some text, or highlight text and replace it with a symbol, it
can only be done using the menu option.
