Installing Project 2007 with 2003

Chris Stoermer

I have two courses being taught on separate versions. I have deployed the
other office apps in parallel. Except for a slight hic-up with Access
configurations, this all seems to be functional. Unfortunately, when I added
Project 2007, it breaks Project 2003. The app will launch, but will not save
project files:

An unexpected error occurred during command execution.
Try the following:
Verify that all argument names and values are correct and are of the correct
type.
You may have run out of memory. To free up.....

Any ideas on what we need to do to get Project 2003 working?

This should work. Did you install Project 2003 before or after
Office/Project 2007?
If you installed it after you will have to uninstall 2007.
To be safe I'd start from scratch and install in order.

Yes, we've had 2003 in place for almost 3 years. The error occurred right
after I added 2007.

Did you try uninstalling 2007?
I've not seen that error before.
Any customized macros or add-ins?

Hello;

I have users with version MS Project Professional 2002. The Project
Coordinator who manages all of the clients projects got the same error
message when opening a project this morning. Could you give me some helpfull
information as to why she would have received the same error?
Thanks.

Hi;

Also, I wanted to add the users comments.
"Jacques:

I opened MS Project and that was the only application open. I received the
message show in the attached. It indicates I need to free up some memory. I
therefore, cannot open the files of Ms Project to do some work today.

Please fix ASAP.

Hi Jacques,

To clarify - does your Project Coordinator have both Project 2002 and
Project 2007 installed? I understand he/she is getting the same error
message but it's rather important for us to have some additional details
about the installation of MS Project at your site.

What service pack is applied to Project 2002?
Are you running Project Server as well?
Is the project kicking the error a master project file?
Can the person open/save other project files?

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hello;

We are only using MS Project Professional 2002 (10.0.2104.1305)SP-1. We
have only two computers with MS Project Professional 2002 (10.0.2002.0502)
and they don't get involved in the project files whatsoever.

Thanks for those points of clarification, Jack. Is this occurring on
both computers with the same file? Can you open/save other project
files? Is the file with the error a master project file (containing
multiple inserted projects)?

Without answers to those questions, all I can do is guess. If yes to all
three, my best guess without any further information is that you have a
corrupted Project file. If you cannot open the file, you will have to
revert to a backup copy. If it is a master project file, you may be
able to salvage the subproject files.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
