Is it Possible to Change Duration while Capturing Earned Value?

A

I am using Project Pro 2007. I have an in-progress task that I am
capturing SV. The task was originally 20 days duration; however, it
will now require 40 days. I have changed the duration field, but the
SV does not reflect the new duration. I realize I am supposed to
baseline the new duration for the SV to update, but I only have 11
baseline fields to work with. I believe this schedule will encounter
more than 11 delays.

What is the best way to handle this situation? Re-baseline every
time? Create new tasks to capture the additional work that will be
needed? Stop using EVM? :)

Thanks!

SV is the difference between current plan and baseline. If you reset the
baseline, then the schedule variance will reset to 0.

When you say you've extended the task to 40 days, have you added more
work, or have you reduced the rate of work whilst leaving the total
amount of work in the task the same?

If the work has increased, the SV won't change because the actual work
on a day-to-day basis will still be the same as the baseline work. The
problem here is that the earned value of that work is lower. You will
need to look at the CV field to appreciate this.

If the total work hasn't increased, then you should see a difference in
the SV value as you accrue actual work at a lower rate than that in the
baseline. Have you checked your status date?
