Leaving Entourage is hard to do

There are so many odd Entourage Sync Services behaviors in ENT08 that
I decided to give iCal and Addressbook a go. The one Entourage
behavior that really got to me (along with it just being broken) is if
I wrote an event or task, sync'd it to my Palm and then added
information, these items would be duplicated so that the new item had
the updated info while the old one just had to be deleted. In iCal
these items just were updated not requiring any careful watching and
then removal.

I then decided to use iCal and Addressbook solely for 5 days and they
sync perfectly - no errors. But, I definitely miss the power of
Entourage and its ability to massage and manipulate data through
categories, links, searches and projects. Once Entourage is fixed, and
who knows how long that's going to take, I'll go back to it. But I've
realized this won't be an easy task. It took a while to rename my iCal
entries from the Calendar I applied back to Entourage and of course to
then apply the categories, links and assign, if need be, the items to
a project is time consuming. If Entourage is out of commission for a
while, it will get unreasonable to even contemplate moving weeks worth
of work back to Entourage.

There's just only two choices left - abandon ENT08 entirely, which I
don't want to do, or loose this information to Entourage and just
start from when its working (a potentially significant hole) and have
an iCal archive of this info. There is one other possibility and that
is if e2sync becomes Leopard compatible and is able to reliably sync
items and categories over to Entourage. Markspace (Missing sync)
suggested this however it currently only works in Tiger and I wasn't
overly impressed with the reviews (VersionTracker).

So this mess with Entourage is really unfortunate. I've used both
Outlook from 1997 to 2003 and Entourage till now and I'm used to
having the level of functionality these products provide. In 25 years
of using Microsoft products, I've never had an issue, until now. And
what an issue this has turned into. I'm still amazed the product got
out the door with such a major flaw.
