Mac Word images not viewable on PC

I have been emailed several Word files from a Mac user which have embedded
graphics.
However, most of these appear as a white square with the message:
"Quicktime and a TIFF (LZW) decompressor are required to see this picture"

Does anyone know of an answer to this?

The images were quite probably inserted as Mac .pict format which PC Word
doesn't understand. You might ask the sender to replace them with .png or
..jpg versions of the images (which are better cross-platform) & then re-send
the docs.

PS - Another possibility is that the docs contain .tiff images which are 24
bit color (or higher). Word can't display them.
