Macro recorder doesn't record file open steps?

I'm curious to learn if there's something in the xl2004 macro recorder that prevents it from generating the code statement to open a workbook.
I know it's easy enough to add the workbooks.open... statement using the VB editor, but when I try to have the macro recorder capture the statement as I do the key strokes, it just ignores the keystrokes. It does capture the ChDir operation, but that't it.
Is this the way the recorder is supposed to work or am I dealing with an anomaly?

Works fine here. How are you opening the workbook? Are both workbooks on
the local volume?
