Macro to clear the MS Office Project 2007 Cache

Ivor Davies

We all know how wonderful the NEW cache functionality is on Microsoft Office
Project 2007 Professional. The problem for me as an EPM administrator is that
some PM's cache either become corrupt or out-of-sync with the server.

I would like to create a macro that I can store in the GLOBAL.MPT on the
server (ENTERPRISE GLOBAL) so that it is automatically run when the PM closes
their Microsoft Project 2007 session.

Is such a macro possible? Would you recommend creating such a macro, or
would I just be creating a whole new set of problems / issues?

Any comments / suggestions?

Thank You.

I think there would be some problems with this as the Enterprise Global is
cached in the very cache that you want to delete.
The only method I know that is available for this is:
CleanupCache
which displays the Clean Up Cache dialog box. The users would then have to
select options and work with that.
Deleting the file folders which contain the cache is a more reliable
approach, unfortunately this can not be done while project is running so it
can't be done using a project macro.

Thanks Jack for your quick response.

I was looking at your site for some information, so I thought that I would
put the question "out there".

I appreciate the your frank response - it's not the answer that I was hoping
for but it does point me in the right direction. It would appear that we
would be better off creating some custom script that would clean out this
cache outside of MS Project.

I hoping that the December 2008 CU addresses the cache issues that we are
having.

Thanks again...

I'd agree with the custom script approach and I share your hope on the CU!

Ivor:

It would be fairly easy to setup either an autorun bat file or bat file with
desktop Icon to delete the cache.

Gary - That's exactly what we have decided to do - create a batch file that
clears the cache 1st and then proceeds to load Project Pro 2007.

Thanks for you feedback - it is most welcome...
