Mail Not Downloading To Inbox

2008 Entourage has been working great with my Microsoft Exchange Mail Server for months now. Suddenly, yesterday, no mail is coming down into my Inbox. I do see that mail is still being received from the same Exchange Mail account into both my iPhone and also into my Windows Outlook Web Access ... showing me that Exchange is receiving mail.

Entourage shows I am connected. The only clue that something is wrong is that when clicking send/receive, I get a little error sound on the Mac. No error on screen or in Entourage though. Am stumped. Please, anyone, any thoughts on what to try to fix this situation??

Try control-clicking your Inbox and choosing Folder Properties > Empty
Cache.

Also you can confirm that your account is at least working by *sending* a
message. If not, there is a larger problem than the Inbox not updating.

I had exactly the same problem and emptying the Cache seemed to solve it. However, I had only been using the email for a few days when this happened. I'm now concerned that it's going to keep doing this every few days. Does anyone know if there's a way of changing the Cache settings or checking what exactly it's Caching?

I had this problem months ago after years of usage, and haven't had it
since. I wouldn't worry yet about problems you aren't having.

I just started using entourage and have not seen my inbox update with all email yet, is there a size limit to how large your inbox can be. i only get about 20 messages from 2006 in my inbox, no new email, however all my other folders are current. only my inbox has trouble.

By the way, I'm using exchange 2003 server, Entourage 08, and i've already tried emptying the cache in folder options, and the sync bar took a few hours to update all the folders. When i empty cache it takes 4-5 hours to place the same 20 messages from 2006 into my inbox. that said, i do have around 12000 messages in my inbox, but outlook handles that just fine and on new PC loads of outlook, it syncs up in 2-3 minutes, not 4-5 hours. this makes me think that entourage is useless. someone help.

12,000 emails in your inbox is a lot. Outlook may handle it better because
it doesn't actually cache the messages as Entourage does.

I highly recommend archiving these messages to disk, or at least moving them
into a subfolder until we see if we can get your inbox updating properly.

I agree with Adam. Definitely pare your Inbox down.

Email servers are not file servers. They are designed to pass
information between people but not to store everything long term.

The Inbox in Entourage is a special folder. It is synchronized more
frequently than any other folder and if it is too full then it may not
sync properly.

Move those messages either offline or at least into a folder outside of
the Inbox (not as a sub-folder of the Inbox).

Use your Inbox like an Inbox on your desk. Keep it clean and keep items
from piling in it. Strive for Inbox zero.

Hope this helps!
