Managing PM projects while sick

Hi,
When a PM gets sick and existing updates are waiting for approval... How can another PM get these pending UPDATES done ?

Dale Howard explained Managing Pm projects while out of office (planned vacation) but I presume that pending updates are not covered in this scenario:

Before the PM leaves on vacation or whatever, he/she should absolutely make
sure that are no task updates pending on the Updates page of PWA. Then, you
can open each of that PM's projects and do the following:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
2. Select the "Become the manager for these assignments" option
3. Click OK

Doing so will redirect all task updates from team members to you so that you
can accept actuals and update changes. When the PM returns to the office,
he/she will need to repeat the above steps for every project for which
he/she is the PM.

Apparently in MSP 2003 all pending tasks updates are switched from one PM to another Pm who Becomes Manager of the Tasks.

The method I detailed does not impact pending task updates. If a PM is out of the office sick and has updates waiting for approval, a substitute manager will need to log onto the network as the sick manager. This means the sick manager will need to divuldge his network password, which is probably a breach of your company's network security policies.

The alternative is to ask the Project Server administrator to delete the task updates waiting for approval. Here are the steps he/she would need to do:

1. Log into PWA with administrator permissions
2. Click Admin - Clean up Project Server database
3. Select the Resource Task Changes option
4. Select the Sent between option
5. Set the dates between which the updates were sent
6. At the bottom of the page, select the Delete the specified items for only this user option
7. On that options, select the first resource whose updates you wish to delete
8. Repeat steps 3-7 for each resource with pending task updates

Once he/she has completed the above steps to remove all pending task updates, then the subtitute PM should complete the following steps for each project in which he/she will become the temporary PM:

1. Click Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments
2. Select the "Become the manager for these assignments" option
3. Click OK

The team members whose task updates were deleted will need to go to PWA and resubmit their task updates by clicking the Update All button on the Tasks page. Their actuals will not be altered in the 8-step process above, however. Hope this helps.

Hi Luc,

If you know the Projects in which your project manager was working. If you
just Republish assignments > Become the project manager for assignments

In project server 2003 all the update will be routed to you even if they are
pending.

Thanks

I must correct a mistake in my original post. In Project Server 2003, the
pending updates will be transferred to the new manager of the project after
he/she clicks Collaborate - Publish - Republish Assignments and becomes the
manager of the project. Sorry about the confusion.

My mistake. I thought you were talking about Project Server 2002 in your
original post. Thanks for the clarification, and again, I apologize if my
original answer caused you to waste any time. Thanks!
