Memory could not be read

There were 5 excel workbook opened and the following error message poped up:

The instruction at "0x77f87eeb" referenced memory at "0x00000064". The
memory could not be "read".

The only option is to clikc OK to terminate the program and all 5 books were
not saved.

What is the problem and how to prevent it from happening again?

And I have a similar kind of error reading like

The instruction at "0x6501b337" referenced memory at "0x0000003b". The
memory could not be "read".

Where could one find generic information on the internet on such errors.
They are quite frustrating by the nature of their being so uncomprehensible.
