Microsoft Office for Mac/Entourage problem

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop I have recently been having a problem with Microsoft office, Entourage and now Excel. I will say that I did upgrade to Snow Leopard a couple of months back but my problem only started a couple of weeks ago.

I had trouble deleting some old messages and Entourage would crash. It took me days to delete one message at a time with several freezes. Newer messages delete in seconds, no problem but the older ones wouldn't go away.

Also I had a problem with one contact in particular when she sends me an email I can't open it and it crashes Entourage. That started yesterday. I can email her but I can't receive anything from her.

Same thing with one particular Excel file. I can't open it anymore. It crashes the app. I tried renaming it. I tried using the backup file from time machine. Nothing works. I put it on another machine and it opened up fine.

I have tried about everything including deleting my database and creating a new account and importing my old emails, calendar and contacts.

Hmmm, your symptoms don¹t seem to have a common cause. Not receiving from
one contact doesn¹t jive with the other problems.

1. After upgrading to Snow Leopard, did you check your fonts with Font Book
and delete the older Microsoft fonts that are causing probems with the newer
version in Snow Leopard? Fonts to delete after installing Snow Leopard
(includes help deleting font caches)

2. Let¹s look at your hardware next to verify that you have enough drive
space and RAM. See this on how to check for free space and memory.

Problems from insufficient RAM and free hard disk space

3. Since the file worked on another computer this indicates problem with
your current drive...either hardware or corrupt files.

Download the Snow Leopard 10.6.2 combo and apply this to your install. It
will go back and refresh files.

Mac OS X v10.6.2 Update (Combo)

Open Disk Utility in Utilities. Run Repair Permissions and Repair Disk. You
will have to boot from another drive or your install DVD to Repair your
Disk. Do not run Repair Permissions from another drive. I¹ve seen a lot of
bad disks lately so it¹s important that you check the health of your drive.
If the drive fails, you can loose everything. Backups are critical if you
suspect a bad drive.

Lastly, what version is this file? Microsoft Component Plugin

"/Applications/Microsoft Office
2008/Office/MicrosoftComponentPlugin.framework"

I deleted the microsoft font folder. I have it on my desktop for now. I haven't "trashed it" yet.

I have a lot of ram, isn't a problem there.

I have rebuilt my database several times.

I am currently downloading the snow leopard you recommended but I already had 10.6.2 so I don't know if that will make a difference.

My Microsoft Component Plugin in is version 12.2.3. Do I need to update that? Where can I find it?

folder and updated my the snow leopard.

Thanks for the update. You didn¹t have to remove the entire Microsoft Fonts
folder. Just the ones that have newer version in Snow Leopard.
