mplay32.exe will not play movie WMP10 will

I have tried reading these forums but have diffficulty finding resolution to
my complaint. I can play this movie (.mpg) fine in Windows Media Player 10,
but in reading other responses have learned that ppt uses mplay32.exe ( it's
version is 5.1) to play the movies. This app will not play the movie. When
I insert the movie into my ppt I just get a black square frame for the movie
but it will not play. Is there a way to ask ppt to use Windows Media Player
10 for this function? If not I appriciate any other advise you can offer.

You can insert a Windows Media Player object. But you should try PFCMedia

Mr. Dunn, I apprieciate the response, unfortunatley it has not helped yet.
Here are the steps I took.

Installed pfcmedia.
Downloaded and installed Windows Media Encoder 9.
Rebooted
Inserted media into slide with pfcmedia.
pfcmedia opened a window asking me to test function.
Saw no video but could hear audio. All I got in test was black screen.

Exited out of PPT without saving changes.
Reopened PPT.
Attempted to insert Windows Media Player Object
I could see the image of the Media Player 10 in my slide show but could not
find how to point it to target file.

Please advise again.

originated from?

The video clip is from a promotional dvd. The company that disributes this
dvd to its dealers (me) includes two disks. One for a DVD player and another
that is for usage with computers. Hence, it should work. The clip was
copied from the dvd and is in .mpg format. The copied clip plays fine in
windows media player 10. I have shortened the path to the clip as well
placing it in a folder in the c: root directory. Next i will try putting the
ppt in that folder as well as I read somewhere else that they had success
doing so. If you can offer anything I would be most appriciative!

Howie,

Sorry but more questions required. <g> When you say Mpeg is it mpeg-1 or
mpeg-2? I ask because the mpeg-1 standard has set requirements (Size,
resolution, color depth, etc.) and the MCI player will NOT handle a file
that doesn't meet them. (The Windows Media Player is much more forgiving
and may play it fine.) When most people create a mpeg-1 they test it in the
Windows Media Player and if it works they think it's fine as they have no
clue about the MCI player and it's requirements.

I know it's a bit of a pain, but you might try removing PFCMedia and instead
install PFCPro. We use more advanced technology in it for the conversion
and I think it may just get the job done for you.

I have the same problem. I have a mpeg2 video file that I made with a sony
hdr-sr1 video camera. It will not play in mplay32.exe but will play in
windows media player. When I tried to use PFC Media I got an error message
that said either my file was corrupt or has digital right managment. Do
you
have a suggestion on where to go from here?
