Yes, perhaps 'random' was a poor choice of word.
'arbitrary' is a better word.
However, see my comments on aggregate queries in general.
With complex nested aggregate queries, first and last cannot
be depended on to return records by 'disk order' or even by
'order by' order. Presumably there are join or group-by operations
that have the effect of changing the sort order. This problem
pre-dates the change to disk sort order, although I didn't realise
it at the time.
