MS Office 97 ... 2002

I'm the proud owner of MS Office 2002 with its suite of programs
including Publisher 2002. I understand I can have
Publisher 97 and 2000 co-exist together on the same computer, to
have a means to view and edit old Pub 97 files, etc.

I wonder if there is anything for or against keeping Word 97 and 2002..?
Furthermore, I want to keep MS Access 97 going on my computer.
Is it kosher to keep two versions of MS Office going on the same
computer ?

Thanks in advance for your comments.!

You can do a parallel install (Office 2002 in a separate folder on the hard
drive) with no problem. You should do a custom install and tell the
installation program not to remove previous versions. You should also
install and update the earlier version with the latest service packs before
installing the next version. Only the latest version of Outlook will
function.

The only thing you will see unusual is with Word when you switch between
opening Word 97 and Word 2002. Word 2002 will attempt to reinstall each
time after you have started Word 97. There is a registry hack that works to
stop this and it is:

Start Regedit and go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/10.0/Word/Options. Right click
a blank area in the right panel once Options is highlighted in the left
panel. You will see New appear. Left click on it and you will get options.
Left click on DWORD Value. In the box that opens under Name type "NoRereg"
with the capital letters and without the quotes and then click outside the
box. Now to set the value in the word. Right click on Noreen and you will
see a window open. Left click Modify. Type a 1 in the box called Value
data:. Click OK.

Do the same for your installation of Office 97 which will be version 8
instead of 10.0 under Office.

This will hold the reinstallation and I have been using this method for
about 5 months now without any problem. I currently have Office 4.3 (old
Win 3.1 version), 97, 2000, 2002 & 2003 installed on this computer and use
Word interchangeably. I also have Pub 2.0, Pub 97, Pub 98 and Pub 2003 all
installed without any problems.

Hope this information helps, let us know if it does and if any further
information or help is needed.

go to" paragraph below where is says "Right click on Noreen" it should read
"Right click on NoRereg"

I thought your original phrase fantastically romantic... Microsoft is
usually so clinical. When you wrote, "Right click on Noreen and you
will see a window open", I immediately thought of Juliet opening a
window for Romeo. Maybe I'm a bit strange ;))) ?

I do a right click on my wife occasionally and she opens a window and that
is romantic but she hates computers so I have to be careful where else I
right click.

Thanks for the feedback and hope everything works OK for you.
